Sharing the Story of St. Patrick with the Next Generation

March 12, 2026 By Chris Cooke

Ancient Order of Hibernians National President Sean Pender recently visited St. Raphael School in Hamilton, New Jersey, where he presented copies of the children’s book Our Friend, Saint Patrick to students and faculty.

Pictured with President Pender are Joseph H. Slavin III, principal of St. Raphael School, and Adelaide McElroy Torpila, the school’s librarian.

The AOH National Board was approached by publisher Amici Santi to assist in promoting this beautifully illustrated book about Ireland’s patron saint. The book includes a foreword written by AOH National Chaplain Fr. Martin O’Reilly and is designed to introduce young readers to the life and legacy of St. Patrick.

Importantly, a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Our Friend, Saint Patrick will be directed to Hibernian charitable initiatives supporting Catholic projects.

President Pender encourages AOH divisions, boards, and individual members across the country to consider purchasing copies of the book and donating them to local Catholic schools, helping to share the story of St. Patrick with a new generation of students.

Through efforts like these, the Ancient Order of Hibernians continues its mission of promoting Irish heritage, Catholic faith, and the values embodied in our motto of Friendship, Unity and Christian Charity.
