Danny Eakins

Danny has served as a veteran policy advocate in the State of Ohio for 12 years. During this time, he has authored and implemented state legislation and initiatives that have expanded opportunities for higher education, professional licensing, business, and employment for veterans, servicemembers, and their families. He also leads collaborative efforts to expand veteran access to behavioral healthcare services and reduce veteran suicide in Ohio. Danny has been recognized as Veteran Advocate of the Year by the Ohio chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America in 2011 and 2017 and by Ohio’s Governor in 2011. He is also a 2012 recipient of the Ohio Governor’s Award for Employee Excellence and was named Veteran Small Business Champion for 2016 by the United States Small Business Administration.

The son of a Vietnam Veteran, Danny was raised in West Jefferson, Ohio, and enlisted in the United States Army after the attacks on Washington and New York on September 11, 2001. Earning his commission at Officer Candidate School, he served as a Tank Platoon Leader with the 2 nd Battalion, 34 th Armor Regiment, where he led his platoon on more than 300 combat patrol missions in Iraq in 2005. Danny later joined the Ohio National Guard where he served as a Company Commander and Battalion Executive Officer with the 16 th Engineer Brigade, leading his company during civil relief operations in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav in 2008. During his Army career, he earned decoration seven times for meritorious service, including the Bronze Star for combat service in Iraq, and was promoted to the rank of Major.

Danny has been a member of Division 1, Patrick Pearse, of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Columbus, Ohio for over 5 years. He has served as Division and State Veterans Affairs Chairman during most of that time, served two years as Division Financial Secretary, and is currently serving as Division Vice-President. In 2017 he was honored to receive the Commodore John Barry Award from Division Past President Edward Norris. Danny is also a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Society of the First Infantry Division.

Danny is a 1998 graduate of Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.
