Tim McSweeney is a 30 year member of the Father Henry Tansey Division #5 where his immediate family has been active for many years. Tim was an active member of the AOH Junior Boys’ Division and served as Junior Division President. Tim moved through the chairs on the Division level and served Division #5 in almost every elected and appointed office. Tim eventually served as Albany County President.
As a proud member of Division 5, Tim has served as Chairman of several successful Installation Dinners, Communion Breakfasts, AOH & LAOH Family Picnics and the Albany Parade Grand Marshal’s Dinner. He also served as a Chair of two State AOH Bowling Tournament hosted in Albany. He is a member of the Schenectady Major Degree Team and serves as Mass Coordinator for the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Tim was honored as Grand Marshal of the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
In recognition of his leadership and commitment to Hibernianism, Tim has been honored by Div. 5 as “Hibernian of the Year” and has also received the “President’s Service and Leadership Award” on multiple occasions. In 2014 Tim was honored as one of Irish Echo Newspapers’ “40 under 40” award recipients.
On the State AOH level, in addition to representing Div. 5 at State Conventions for more than 20 years, Tim was a committee Chair and event coordinator for four State Conventions hosted in Albany. Tim was also instrumental in bringing the National AOH & LAOH Convention to New York and served in numerous leadership and planning positions.
On the State Board, Tim was elected and served as State Treasurer, State Secretary, and State Vice President and in July 2015 was elected State President. Currently, Tim serves as New York State Organizer and serves on the Austin V. Carew Scholarship committee Tim Currently serves as National Organizer and has worked develop and present an organizing and leadership seminar to many divisions around the Country. Tim helped develop the current on-line application system that has resulted in a growth of membership nationwide. Tim has recently organized many new divisions around the Country. Tim also serves on the National marketing and promotion committee. In 2016. Tim served on the National 1916 commemoration committee. In 2020, Tim was elected National Director assigned to represent the State of New York.
In response to the devastation caused by Superstorm Sandy, Tim co-founded the AOH B.O.G. (Boots on the Ground) response team. This team assists community after disasters with clean up and rebuilding.
Tim was born in Albany NY and raised in Delmar NY by Myles and the late Patricia McSweeney. He has 3 sisters and a brother.
Tim is a lifelong Communicate of St.Thomas the Apostle Parish in Delmar, where he has served as a catechist in the Faith Formation Program.
Tim is married; he and his wife Kala are the proud parents of their daughter Isabella and reside in Selkirk N.Y.
Professionally, Tim has been employed as a Correction Officer for the Albany County Sheriff Office for 20 years. Tim served 24 years in the Volunteer Fire Service and continues to serve in fire service training as a nationally certified Fire Instructor II for the
