Carbondale, PA – Successful benefit held for Matt Burnett

March 14, 2020 By National Board

from Joe Hosie, Past PA AOH State President …

Front Row: Colton Burnett, Daisy Burnett; 2nd Row: Debbie Burnett, Kathleen McCullough, Jeff Burnett; 3rd Row: Alyssa Lane, Avery Fierman, Peggy Smedley, Matt Burnett, Tommy Doherty, Marietta Doherty, Margaret Scholl, Ricky Burnett Jr.; 4th Row: Rick Burnett Sr., Matt McCullough and Pat Scholl.

Monsignor William Farrell Div. #2 hosted a Fund Raiser Dinner for Matt Burnett, son of Frank, who passed away in May. Matt has a hereditary disease called Huntington’s Chorea. His mother and grandfather both passed away from his terrible disease. Matt is now manifesting all of the symptoms, which takes away a person’s functional abilities. As a Hibernian, I was so proud as this day went by watching all the neighborhoods come in to greet Matt. We were able to sell more than 475 dinners and there was also a basket raffle. This Benefit was very successful, and it will help Matt immensely as he fights this battle.

Only in a small town such as ours, Carbondale and surrounding communities, do people from all walks of life show their spiritual and financial support for someone as deserving as Matt Burnett. The response to our fundraising efforts was far beyond our expectations. We were able to provide over 470 dinners, sell over 200 T-shirts, conduct two separate 50/50 drawings and auction off more than 60 novelty baskets. Our sincerest thanks to patrons and workers alike for not only their generosity and support, but most importantly, their gift of time. Thank you, all.
