The Gavel is Passed

July 28, 2020 By Neil Cosgrove

Newly Immediate Past President Judge James McKay III (center left) passes the gavel to newly elect National President Danny O’Connell (center right). They are flanked by newly elected Vice President Sean Pender (left) and Secretary Jere Cole (right)

It is customary to say after each AOH convention that “it was a convention like no other”, but nothing could be more true about the 100th biannual National Convention held in this COVID year of 2020. For the first time, the Convention was held on-line which saw exceptional participation by the members. It shows that despite being an organization founder in the 19th Century, the Hibernians are well prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st.

Congratulation to newly elected National President Danny O’Connell who coordinated and managed the transformation of the convention from the physical to the virtual, supported by the able efforts of many brothers. Congratulations to his elected board of Vice President Sean Pender, Secretary Jere Cole, Treasurer Liam McNabb and the newly elected Directors Ed Halligan, Ray Lynch, Bob Mahrens, Tim McSweeney, Sean O’Dowd, and Rick Thompson

Finally a special thank you to worthy, now Immediate Past National President, Judge James Mckay III for his selfless dedication to the Order and his leadership.

It is said that in crisis, there is danger and opportunity. While the current crisis has impacted all of us, the necessities of COVID have forced the Order to improvise and discover new means of doing things that will only make the Order stronger.
