April 12, 2014 By National Board

It looks like the count for just 30 days last month will be over 100 current members out of 535 Members of Congress!!! That is no small feat! It's great that champions of our cause like Chuck Schumer, Dick Durbin and Bruce Morrison, were all at the beginning of the month and the month ended with Nancy Pelosi getting pinned. That's not counting other legislators, and people like Ambassador Anderson and CG Noel Kilkenny who wore theirs for the entire month! … [Read more...] about Immigration Pin Presentations

Press Release From the Anti-Defamation Chair Concerning the Sale by Walmart of Defaming Merchandise Targeting Irish Americans

March 1, 2014 By Neil Cosgrove

The Ancient Order of Hibernians calls on national retailer Walmart to immediately cease the sale of defaming merchandise targeting Irish Americans. Among items being sold are T-Shirts with such phrases as “I may not be Irish, but I Can Drink like One” and “Blame the Irish for My Behavior”.   These items are an outrage to those whose Irish Heritage traces to hard working Irish immigrants, not to a beer bottle, and seek in March, which is Irish American Heritage Month, to see their culture celebrated, not used as an excuse for aberrant behavior. Per AOH National Anti-Defamation Chairman Neil … [Read more...] about Press Release From the Anti-Defamation Chair Concerning the Sale by Walmart of Defaming Merchandise Targeting Irish Americans

2014 Barry Dedication

December 7, 2013 By National Board

We are fast approaching yet one more pivotal event in the long and glorious history of The Ancient Order of Hibernians in America. I refer to the Dedication of the Commodore John Barry Memorial to take place on May 10, 2014, at the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland. The inspiration, impetus, and persistence to see this important undertaking to fruition must be attributed to two of our AOH Brothers, John McInerney and Jack O’Brien, both members in Washington, D.C. Early on, it was their interest, research, enthusiasm, and fundraising that became contagious in the D.C. area, … [Read more...] about 2014 Barry Dedication

President's Message

June 1, 2013 By National Board

Spring is the season of newness of growth, and of opportunity. Just as the lawns, trees and shrubs around us seem to take on new life, so, too, with each of us and with the AOH itself. In terms of growth, you should be aware that there are Hibernians in the State of Iowa, and they are increasing! Although it was February and we felt as though we were flying over the Polar Ice Cap, Danny O’Connell, our National Treasurer, and Patrick Sturdy, our National Legal Counsel, accompanied me to Dubuque to initiate new members, install a new division, and install a new county board. While the … [Read more...] about President's Message
