Political Education Committee Report

May 17, 2019 By National Board

from Neil Cosgrove, PEC Chairman ... Brothers: All signs point to things heating up on the Political Education front, Brexit still poses a threat to Ireland, both north and south. Let us remember that the people of Northern Ireland rejected Brexit by 56% and the citizens of the Republic of Ireland had no vote in the referendum at all, yet Ireland will disproportionately bear the brunt of Britain’s decision to leave the EU. This threat includes the real possibility of a hard border as a result of a hard Brexit which appears more likely every day. We have seen recent statements by … [Read more...] about Political Education Committee Report

Honor Thy Fathers and Mothers

May 16, 2019 By National Board

from John Patrick Walsh, Pro-Life Chairman ... Brothers and Sisters, The months of May and June present us with an excellent opportunity to give thanks and honor the mothers and fathers in our lives. The Church dedicates the month of May to Mary, with many parishes hosting special events to honor our spiritual mother. Online I have seen a few divisions and boards who took the time to honor their mothers, an action I encourage each division to emulate. But why stop there? Our respect of life acknowledges the role that both men and women play in its creation and care. Therefore, it is … [Read more...] about Honor Thy Fathers and Mothers

Irish Immigration Summit at Irish Embassy

May 16, 2019 By Dan Dennehy

E3 Visas for Irish Revisited- House and Ways Committee Chairman US Rep. Richie Neal recently reintroduced H.R.2418 to add Ireland to the E-3 Non-Immigrant Visa. This Bill, which would allocate the remainder of Australia's 10,500 E3 visas for Irish applicants. Based on last years effort, we learned that many Congress members think Ireland has no problems getting visas to the U.S. Hibernians must educate their Congress reps that the Irish for over 50 years have been adversely affected by current rules. This Bill doesn't address issues of the undocumented and those long waiting for immigrant … [Read more...] about Irish Immigration Summit at Irish Embassy

May 7, 2019 By National Board

From National Director John Wilson ... April 29, 2019 By Neil Cosgrove

The Ancient Order of Hibernians wish to express their appreciation to President Trump for another stay of deportation for Malachy McAllister.   This stay would not have been possible without the direct involvement and untiring efforts of Senator Schumer, Senator Graham, Senator Menendez, Rep. Peter King, Rep. Eliot Engel, Rep. Bill Pascrell, Rep. Richie Neal, Rep. Chris Smith, other Senate and House supporters, and his Eminence Cardinal Dolan.  At a time when there is little common ground in Washington, that so many prominent figures in their respective parties and the Cardinal of … [Read more...] about Hibernians Thank President Trump, Members of the Senate, House and Cardinal Dolan for Six Month Stay of McAllister Deportation, Call for Fixing the System.

A chairde: FFAI ISSUES UPDATE A- Brexit chaos as Westminster rejects May deal- Britain's exit from the European Union, Brexit, due March 29th was delayed as Westminster vetoed Prime Minister Theresa May's deal with the EU. Multiple parliamentary defeats made May ask the EU for an extension. No one knows what will happen next. Had Britain accepted May's withdrawal deal with the EU nations, Brexit could have gone ahead on May 22nd. Brexit could go ahead without any deal on April 12th or Britain could ask for more time and even renegotiations. Exiting after May 22nd, would require Britain … [Read more...] about APRIL FFAI 2019 BULLETIN

Statement on GOP’s St. Patrick’s Day Tweet Promoting Defaming Stereotypes of Irish American

March 18, 2019 By Neil Cosgrove

The Ancient Order of Hibernians are shocked and appalled that on St. Patrick’s Day, a day when America celebrates and honors the contributions that Irish Americans have made to our great country, the GOP would launch an attack on a prospective presidential candidate based solely on his Irish Heritage. On 3/17 at 12:16 PM the GOP twitter account tweeted a mug shot of candidate “Beto” O’Rourke taken during a 1998 DWI arrest wearing a photoshopped green top hat and shamrock and a caption “Please Drink Responsibly.”  The tweet then states “On this St, Paddy’s Day [sic] a message from noted … [Read more...] about Statement on GOP’s St. Patrick’s Day Tweet Promoting Defaming Stereotypes of Irish American

Hibernians Condemn Philadelpha Magazine’s description of St.Patrick’s day as “A wave of green-clad, likely intoxicated, Irish potato-eating Philadelphians”

March 11, 2019 By Neil Cosgrove

The Hibernians were appalled to read in the Philadelphia Magazine article “Philly’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Your Need-to-Know Guide” by writer Claire Sasko the following statement Here comes St. Patrick’s Day, and with it a wave of green-clad, likely intoxicated, Irish potato-eating Philadelphians and (plenty of) suburbanites. Such a negative stereotype-laden, trope-ridden statement seems more in keeping with the sentiments of the nativist who burned Catholic Churches in early 19th century Philadelphia than 21st century America. Ironically, this exercise in defamation is published in … [Read more...] about Hibernians Condemn Philadelpha Magazine’s description of St.Patrick’s day as “A wave of green-clad, likely intoxicated, Irish potato-eating Philadelphians”

Hibernians Condemn NI Secretary Karen Bradley’s “acting under orders” defense of Security Force Murders in Northern Ireland

March 7, 2019 By Neil Cosgrove

03/06/2019– The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH)  Since her appointment, it has been manifestly evident that British Northern Ireland Secretary Karen Bradley is woefully unqualified.  The world was amazed when the Crown’s senior official in the north of Ireland had so little understanding of the community of Northern Ireland as to be “surprised” to learn that members of the Unionist community do not vote for Irish Republicans and Republicans do not vote for Unionists.  However, while there is some hope for the redemption of ignorance, there can be no toleration of … [Read more...] about Hibernians Condemn NI Secretary Karen Bradley’s “acting under orders” defense of Security Force Murders in Northern Ireland
